Issues Embedding Map in Blog on Wix.com

Travel Forums System Talk Issues Embedding Map in Blog on Wix.com

Hello - I am a new user, attempting to add my travel map in the blog I have created at wix.com. The website editor allows me to embed via html or a website itself. The latter option works; however, I would prefer to have only the map. I copied over the code directly as instructed, but it just comes up blank. If anyone have experience with this provider or a similar provider and would be able to give me a hand, I would greatly appreciated it. I've asked the same question on wix.com forum as well. Thank you in advance,

Thanks for the report and an example page to see it in action!

This seems to be entirely caused by wix, as they put our code in an iframe with a too restrictive same-origin policy, causing an error when the google maps script tries to access the document property.
Travellerspoint might be able to work around this, by proxying the google maps script, but that feels iffy to me.

Might be that Peter can investigate a bit more and come up with alternative solutions/workarounds. (Maybe Google Maps already has a property/setting to work around it?)

Thank you Sander. I do like the ease of their editor but not at the expense of functionality; therefore, if Wix is the issue, then we may need to find another host for our blog. Just getting started so it is good to find this out before we getting too far. If anyone has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate it.

I wouldn't yet give up hope on Peter being able to fix this. I haven't seen him post in a few days, so he might be very busy, but I'd at least wait until he replies before you give up on wix. :)

Out of curiosity, have you looked at the blogging functionality Travellerspoint itself provides, and if so, what's missing from that that you're not using it?

You can make your blog here on Travellerspoint and it works great.

hi there, i'm having the same problem, but I've been using my wix site for about 6 months, so I'm not about to follow Mike's example and abandon Wix! Did you guys ever work out a way to solve it?

Here it is, so you can see what i mean

Also, just while i was writing this, the twitter feed from my front page seems to have disappeared. But that might just be a shortage of bandwidth. If it looks fine to you, then please ignore!

thanks, cath

I'll have to rewrite how the embed code works to make this possible. This might take a while though, as there are more pressing things to work on unfortunately.

In the meanwhile, an alternative to the trip map is embedding the trip stats. There is an embed link on your stats page with some code snippets. You could then just include a regular link to the map along with it.

One other option is to take a screengrab and insert that in the page. Obviously that gets out of date as soon as you update trip. But if it's relatively stable that might be a good option.
