Define Indirect or Alternate Route Between Two Points

Travel Forums System Talk Define Indirect or Alternate Route Between Two Points

Hello,

Is it possible to alter the driving route between two points on our trip? In other words, I would like to be very precise about which streets I traveled. The only way I can think of to accomplish this is to mark specific intersections or landmarks and include them in the trip planner.

Thanks!
Delia

Hi Delia,

For now the only way is to do as you have suggested - by adding intermediate waypoints. I'm afraid custom routes are not yet a feature included. Maybe in the future.

Along the same lines, I like to be very specific about which kind of transport I travel with... Especially since the map actually makes stats for it...

I do have a problem with the "bus" option... The fact that your map know specific bus and train routes are really impressive, but: there's a lot of places in the world were bus transport is actually possible without there being online routes and schedules. In those cases I have two options:
I can put in 'bus' and then choose between "straight line" or "curved line" or
I can put in 'car' and choose "drive" to actually get the right roads (and distance) that I have travelled.
With both 'foot', 'animail', and 'motorbike' is to possible to choose the "road" option that gives the route as if the main road was followed. It is impossible to include a "road" option for buses? It would add some nice precision to the my maps? :)

Cheers,
Ask

Can you give me an example Ask? I think you should still be able to select bus as the transport mode after selecting the driving route, but it may be a bit fiddlier :)

I'm currently roaming around in West Africa... Any travel map entry where I select 'bus' as my mode of transportation then gives me two options for choosing the route: "straight line" and "curved line"... Pretty standard, but the line doesn't follow to the roads that are on the map...
In Morrocco it would be given more options (e.g. "SupraTours Route") because the machine knew the specific bus company had a route between the two points on the map... Here the line follows the road - giving a more precise marking...

I'm simply suggesting that a standard choice called "road" (where the line sticks to the roads) is added together with "straight line" and "curved line" options when selecting bus as means of transportation... This is already the case if I choose foot, bike, animal or motorbike as my mean of transportation.. The I automatically get to choose between "road", "straight line" and "curved line"..

Hope that made it clearer - it might be difficult if you do not actually have a travel map in front of you :)

Cheers,
Ask

Hi Ask,

Yeah, it was clear. I had a look into it and it wasn't that hard to add the road option in for buses so I've gone ahead and done it. Hopefully it helps with those stats :)
