With the imminent demise of Virtual Tourist (VT), I have at the suggestion of other VT members, joined this Travellerspoint community.

I live in London (UK), and travel as much as possible. In 2016, we visited India, Albania, and Cornwall in the UK.

My great interests, about which I have published books and articles, are: the Balkans (Albania, in paricular), India, and South Africa.

I am looking forward to contributing material to Travellerspoint on a regular basis!

Greetings from
Adam

Welcome to travellerspoint! We're certainly getting quite an influx from VT already. I know nothing can quite replace a community you've grown to love with all its quirks, but I hope we offer enough that feels like home that TP will turn out to be a suitable replacement, and that you'll learn to love our very own quirks here over time as well. :)

I'm personally based in the Netherlands, with hiking trips being a major focus for travelling. New Zealand, Patagonia and Canada would be my top three destinations for this. I tend to take a long-term (2+ months) trip every other year or so to get a more thorough overview of such places, though life circumstances have recently meant more shorter trips instead.

Hey Adam, (love that name, it's my son's name) anyway I am also a VT refugee. Hope we can find a niche here and feel comfy.

Dear Sander, thanks for you welcoming message! It is much appreciated.

I had been with VT for just a few days under a year, when I learnt that it was to be closed down. I contributed much to it, but I don't have the time to transfer it, so what you'll be getting will be new stuff.

Adam

For reference, since piglet's post got erroneously flagged by an anti-spam script, this is what she posted:

Sorry piglet, you probably tried to edit your post, right? You've run afoul of one of the automated anti-spam features of the forum (which for some reason is hyper sensitive to edits), and sadly this "Introductions" forum is not one I have moderator powers for, so I can't tell it that it's okay.

When a moderator for this forum looks in, your post will be made visible again. Until then, I recommend not trying to edit your posts, as two flags means you lose posting powers until those flags have been cleared. (Really annoying, but luckily also something which goes away automatically after you've been active for a while.)

And here's another VT refugee. Looking forward to finding out more about this website as (sadly) I hadn't heard about it before. It looks good, though, and I'd be more than happy to contribute to it, too.

Hello ex VT people. Welcome to TP, and I hope that it works out for you as a new place to hang out. I guess it will be a bit different for you and us, but it sounds like both groups have a similar ethos, so I would have have thought it can work out.

I'm Tabitha, from London, and fairly new to TP myself. My husband and I both took voluntary redundancy (severance) from our jobs in 2011. We sold our central London flat, bought a cheaper one and rented that out long term. We have no permanent base, and travel much of the time, usually doing 9-12 months away, then back to the UK for a while to catch up with family and friends.

I quite like the idea of potentially meeting up with others for a coffee or something, whether that be in someone's hometown, or on the road.

Thanks for your welcoming message, Tabitha!

Hi Tabitha. I'm a Londoner and used to hosting VT meetings for visiting friends from all over the world. I hope to continue to do that so if you're in town on any of those occasions you could maybe join us? I love the sound of what you've done to enable you to travel more and would be interested to hear more

Hi Sarah, I would like that, thank you. We're off next week, so won't be around for a while.
