And an update: 92 members have done the import so far copying a total of 479,000 photos, 150,000 tips and 20,000 location pages!

Based on my estimate of about 6.5 million photos total on VT, I think we've pulled in about 7% of the photographic content at least and I'm guessing probably a similar percentage of the tips / location pages

that is Really good News and I am Sure if it wasn’t that VT will be closed in 3 days time then a LOT more people would also transfer their own content over to travellerspoint

Those are impressive figures Peter!

I have been trying to make our Top Members (with a lot of pages and high ranking on the site) aware of the option that Travellerspoint is giving us by leaving a message on their profile pages. Seems like it worked out!

Unfortunately, the people that are closing VT (TripAdvisor basically) have chosen to send out only 1 email about the closure of VT. And this email did not reach a lot of people, since many had their email addresses disabled for VT messages. So many people will not be aware of VT closure.

And the people that ARE aware of closure, may not be all aware of the Travellerspoint option because not everybody reads the Misc forum.

I have send messages to members with rank #1-300 and random messages to rank #400-500 to people with many pages and that signed in recently.

Would be cool if other VT refugees here can help continue to do so, e.g. by messaging members that are currently logged in and notify as many VT friends as possible!

I'm really thrilled that my many thousands of photos, several hundred introductions to places, and over 3,000 tips appear to have successfully transferred from VT to Travellerspoint. I look forward to being able to inspect and edit the text in introductions and tips most of all because this was so time consuming to compose, and unlike most of my photos, were not stored in duplicate elsewhere. Travellerspoint geographical plotting for itineraries and photos is really great! I look forward to contributing to wikitravel via Travellerspoint.
