Hi Helena,

I've sent you the link via a private message. Check your TP 'Messages' top right of this page. :-)

Thank you Peter and Sander for your help. I have done what you have instructed me but it looks like nothing much is going on... see below the message I got since the last few minutes. Maybe the VT website is busy due to many people trying to save their data. Anyway, I will check again later....

stage 1 of 6 - Fetching a list of photos to import

Photos: 0 imported, 0 failed, 0 left in queue

That's expected. It does the importing one member at a time. Probably in an hour or two it'll start on yours.

Quoting Peter

I would love some feedback from the VTers on Travellerspoint.

I've been looking into creating some code to help you export content from your Virtual Tourist account. While we don't have a like-for-like replacement for the tips format (at the moment), I could still import it into a database for you to have access to it beyond the shutdown of VT. Creating a Tips feature to more closely mirror what VT offered would be interesting anyway and potentially integrate nicely with the Planner tool we have currently. I can imagine travellers planning their trip would love to see tips from members on the destinations on their list.

I'm partially writing this thread to let you know this is in the works and partially to get any feedback from you on things that you consider necessary from an export. The main pages I'm currently looking at are the "Travel pages" and then following the reviews, images, etc. from there to download them. If you are currently exporting your own info from VT, I'd be interested to know your process so I can basically look at automating it for you :)

If you want to be kept updated on progress, please subscribe to this thread either by replying or by clicking the subscribe link at the bottom of the thread.

I realise there is some urgency in achieving this, so it is being prioritised to complete soon.

Peter, like many others i am also a VT refugee. would like to transfer my VT content (cochinjew) to TP. I have joined TP (cochinjew).
but where do I transfer ? how? where do i paste my VT address?
Thank you, the clock is ticking

Welcome to the site! I've sent you a PM with instructions. You should see "1 New Message" at the very top right of the page. Click on that to go read it. :)
