Indeed, we will be patient and hope Peter will manage to find a solution.

Quoting atufft

Peter needs to send out more than a page count of intros and tips since VT closes down tomorrow. It's a difficult thing to depend upon faith in the programmer. Maybe a sample blog can be created from a stream of intro and tip for a place?

Sadly that'd be almost as much work as creating the real thing.

I doubt that a "blog" format would be the eventual solution, either. The travellerspoint site - and underlying database - has a number of existing functionalities which these tips and reviews could be made to hook into. Doing the information architecture - figuring out how to structure the content, and how to present it to visitors, how to make it useful; easy to find for people, without being overwhelming - and easy to maintain by the people who create it! (it's probably just unstructured plain text right now - no formatting, no attached location information, so giving you an interface to add these things as easily as possible is very important) - all takes a lot of time. We wouldn't want to throw out bits of the site that work well now and replace it with a copy of whatever VT had - but we do want to add on this new content to it in a way that makes sense, and invites creating much more of the same.
Actually programming the eventual solution - once it's been thought up - tends to be the easiest step.

And I doubt Peter has had much of any time at all yet to spend on this. There's been higher priority issues. First of all, creating a working importer (which he succeeded at very well; I think that should help with the "faith in the programmer" bit!), and hooking up the photos then was an obvious way to show that things transferred over correctly. But of course, that immediately created a whole bunch of new problems, as having your photos here, you all also - naturally! - want to categorize them and place them on the map, and where the process for doing that is well thought out when uploading new photos, it didn't work very well for batch editing photos after the fact, so he's been busy putting in fixes to improve that experience as well.

I hope the above explains the immensity of the task ahead of Peter a bit. He's absolutely up for it, and knowing him, he'll be giving us a sneak peek as soon as he has worked out something that looks like it might be a solution - but it's definitely not going to be done overnight. No one would benefit from a rush job, so please accept that, and be prepared for some patience in this area. :)

Hello All!,

I've just found this forum and know that the issue of importing photos is over. I was fortunate enough to have gotten the information and was able to transfer all but 7 of my photos. Guess I'll have to wait to see if any reviews arrived, but that's okay, I saved them in word.

Anyway, I'm just here to say hello to all you lovely VT People. Reading your questions and replies felt like being home and made my heart swell.

Most of all I want to thank Peter for the warm welcome, his patience and his swift work on our behalf. Though I don't know Sander except through these pages, Thank you also for your efforts to help us out.

Hugs,
Linda

Thanks for the above post Sander :) – I think that TP is doing a Fab job, it has first provided a Lifeboat for us former VT members (And now it also looks like Travelpod members too) and we have All received a very warm welcome – So I think that us former VT members should exercise some patients – Our joining TP has obviously created Peter and the rest of the staff a Lot of extra work, and that was before those Ever so “Considerate” people at TA decided to close down Travelpod too
Best Regards
Rob
