I have deleted the link in the VT Facebook group and so far it looks like only Rob saw it and used it successfully. He seems to be quite happy now. *winkygrin*

@Kathrin_E: The e-mail which I got from Peter didn't say anything about not publishing it. Anyway, my data transfer was successful, so let's see how thing develop here.

I downloaded all my VT pics to Travellerspoint by using the link. It took almost 2hrs.

Quoting travelfrosch

On a related note, I'm trying to geo-locate my photos manually. Unfortunately, my photo library defaults to "first 100 photos" and takes nearly a minute to switch to "show all photos." Again unfortunately, after I geo-locate one photo, my screen goes back to "first 100 photos," which means it could take days for me to geo-locate all 3000-whatever of my photos. Is there another way to access photos without it going back to "first 100" every time?

Go to your photos & have a look at the URL'.. It will look a bit like http://www.travellerspoint.com/my_photos.cfm .. click 'show all photos & see the UR change to something like http://www.travellerspoint.com/my_photos.cfm?count=all

Change the word 'all' to say .. 500 & hit enter .. now you see 500 photos. copy the url for future use.

There must be a way to see a range between x & y but I have not figured out how to do that.

If you have a group of photos with the same location you can select each photo or use the little box at the top to select all & then "EDIT' in the BLUE BOX .. change the location of the first photo & then, on the right, click 'copy to other' photos. That might be a bit quicker.

Hopefully, that will help a bit til an expert comes along to answer your question properly.

As an aside - it would be better to ask questions that are not related to an original topic in a new thread .. it will be less likely to be buried & missed.

Oops sorry Holger, forgot to mention it.

To the VT'ers who have the link, I'm totally happy for you to share it with other VT'ers privately, I'd just prefer it not not published on the forums. It does allow you to import a link from any VT account and (I'm probably being paranoid) I guess I'd rather not have random people importing other people's VT profiles. Particularly if a lot of people did it, it would clog up the queue to the point of blocking the genuine ones.

By the way, on the topic of geolocating your photos. I think the least tedious way of doing this is actually through the map not through the photo management area.

To do this:

  1. Click on the Map link in the main navigation
  2. Click on the link to Photos that appears in the top left. You will see a lot of thumbnails of your photos on the left. You can click on "Hide mapped photos" to do exactly what it says :)
  3. Hold shift while clicking on multiple photos that belong in the same spot as each other
  4. Click "edit placement" in the info window that appears on the map
  5. Either use the address search functionality or enter in latitude/longitude if that fails for whatever reason.
  6. Hit save.

Funnily enough I just found a bug while documenting that process - It will not immediately hide mapped photos when you are batch mapping them like I just did with shift-clicking and mapping several at a time :( You would need to refresh the page at which point it will correctly recognize that those are mapped. Sorry

Correction, you'd need to hit refresh and then click the "hide mapped photos" link again. Is this what you did?

Yes, that worked. But there is a new proble. After doing this, I cannot click and highlight any new photos for the next step.
