All sounds Good Peter and, as another refugee from VT who has just successfully imported over 4.000 photos, mapping them all as you describe will be quite a task, but I won’t get around to doing this for a month or so as tomorrow I will be heading back to Nepal :-)
But – The main thing is that I now have all my photos saved online and I am really grateful for all the help I have received to enable me to do this – I just have one question, that is

Is it the eventual intention of travellerspoint to also make the travel pages, tips and travelogues that I also imported here from VT available to the public and if so, have you ant idea of timescale ??

The reason I ask is that if this is going to be the case, it would save me a LOT of typing (The two fingered variety) and a Lot of time, some of which I can happily devote to building new Tips Ideas and Travelogues from the trips I am heading off on this year :-)
Thanks in advance
Rob

Hi Rob,

Yes, I would like to re-use the tips / location pages in some way on Travellerspoint. It won't be identical to what you're used to on VT, but I did like the way each member created their own travel guide of sorts on there and I think we can adapt this to fit into our system in some way that will provide added value to the people using the site.

The travelogues were not part of this import script. I'm not sure how many of you had things written in that format on VT, but I was under some time pressure for this and decided to focus on the key areas which seemed to be photos, location pages and tips.

In terms of timelines for creating a way of viewing them, that's really hard to say, but hopefully in the next few months I can make something that will work well here. I think the info would be really nice for people who are using the Planner on here to organise their trips.

Again, this all sound excellent Peter and I am really grateful for all the help that you are giving all of us “VT Refugees”
My main focus on VT was Nepal and Camino Walking in Spain and I was trying to build resources on both of these, My Nepal pages were fairly complete and did includes some travelogues, but I have saved the text from these on my own PC, so uploading them again wouldn’t be a huge issues, especially compared to the 369reviews that are on the Nepal page and 573 that, so far I have written on my Camino Walking pages :-)
The other thing that VT allowed me to do was to occasionally (Where appropriate) mention a small, “Fair Trade Type” enterprise I have in Nepal where I attempt to put a little back into one of the world’s poorest countries – But, I will need some guidance on this as I certainly don’t want to start off on here on a bad foot by breaching your advertising rules :-)
Thanks again and Best Regards
Rob

Hi Rob,

Feel free to send me a PM if you want to clarify whether it would be OK to mention your enterprise prior to doing so. Will help avoid it getting flagged. :)

I need the link too :) I have over 31000 photos and 5000 reviews on VT and feel very glad that we have got this opportunity to transfer content to TP. Thank you! :)

Thanks for doing this Peter. I have just successfully transferred all my VT content (OK, apart from travelogues but I had relatively few of those) despite being thousands of miles from home :):)

Of course on my return I will now need to sort through over 15,000 photos!

I like how the homepage now shows that in the past 24 hours, we've gained "84407 new photos". That's over 2.5% of all photos ever uploaded to travellerspoint - in a single day! :)

And this is just the beginning! I'm sure quite a few more VTers will want to migrate their content here over the next week or so.
