Have a look here .. visiting London .. scroll down & to the right to check out the Visitor Oyster card .. Oysters are a great way to zip around the city .. saves a lot of bother & it maxes out your daily travel expense.

"skip before leaving" as in, do in advance of leaving home? Other than taking your passport, debit/credit cards and a toothbrush, I can't think of anything. It's not like you're going off to the boonies.

Mate, London is a great city! So much to fit in, for starters:
Great museums, awesome architechture, decent nightlife
London Bridge/Tower of London
V and A museum
British museum
Natural History museum
St. Pauls Cathedral
Buckingham Palace/Changing of the guard.
Houses of Westminster/Westminster Abbey/Big Ben
Hyde Park
Camden Town.

Honestly 5 days scratches the surface, but its a great start.

Enjoy.

What wizzmor1977 said!!:)

And most of the museums are free too.

The Tower of London isn't but if you buy a ticket off the website it's cheaper and you can opt not to pay the voluntary donation.

A great day's walk can be done starting from Tower Bridge, crossing the river for HMS Belfast and then back again for St Paul's, through Trafalgar Square and up the Mall to Buckingham Palace, down to Horse Guards Parade and along Whitehall to Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament.

And if you're interested in sport and you're there during the football season, try getting a ticket for a premier league match - awesome atmosphere and a great experience!

Wanna live a little dangerously . . On a Saturday morning, take the tube to the very end of the Victoria line to Walthamstow Central .. exit the station & ask anyone the way to the top end of the High Street Market .. walk for the top to the bottom of the market . .supposedly a mile .. at the bottom, if you get that far, turn left to the station & take the train back into town at Liverpool street.
