My first post as a new member. I noticed with interest the group who were at Mogadishu for the ETIC Congress. Was that a trip open to any members and can anyone provide any help and information in planning a short trip there please? Also, a very basic question for me as a new member, does ETIC arrange trips for members OR is it just a forum for members arranging and planning their own travels?

Perhaps the best forum to ask about the activities of the ETIC is the ETIC website itself. I don't think that anyone here is in the business of doing extreme travel just for the sake of it. We travel because we enjoy travelling and that might or might not be to 'extreme' places. And I'm pretty sure that no-one here would 'brag' that they are extreme travellers, whatever that term means.

Thanks for that and my mistake. I thought that Travellerspoint and ETIC were one and the same thing.

Just so you're aware: You are asking questions about the conference by a "club" of travellers which has no relation whatsoever to this site - Travellerspoint - other than that one person from that club happens to run a blog here. (Which is what I'm presuming you came across.) I wouldn't expect anyone on this forum - other than that specific person - to be able to answer your questions about that club or conference, although I did see on their website that this conference is "invitation only".

As for Travellerspoint: This site doesn't arrange trips for anyone (though there's an affiliate accommodation booking option in the main navigation bar). The forum is here just for (predominantly) independent travellers to share advice and answer each other's questions.

Edit: too slow with replying. It was all said already. :)

Travellerspoint is an independent travel forum for questions and discussions and a platform for travel blogs. But you are certainly very welcome to join the community here. I am still rather new myself but find it inviting and fun.

Thank you once again. I am a semi retired person and am now travelling to some of the interesting places I never saw when I was working internationally. My main focus is on Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Central ASsia and Russia and I will get involved with the forums on this site to see if I can offer anything about any of the places I visit or if anyone can help me in my own planning. Once again, thanks.

Check out the blogs, too. Perhaps you'll enjoy doing that? You surely have interesting stories to tell.
