looking to fly new york to warsaw with swiss air. transfer time in zurich airport is 1 hr 15 minutes. Doable? last flight of the day,, would hate to miss it.
Would a similar transfer be more likely at vienna airport, an alternate flight plan?

From New York to Warsaw? If both legs of the flight are with Swiss air, they usually would not offer it as an option if it wasn't a common and doable connection. And if the flight in to Zurich is delayed slightly, they would be likely to delay the departure of the Warsaw plane to ensure transit passengers like yourself made the connection. If the two legs are with different carriers, I'd be a little more hesitant - 1 hour 15 minutes might be possible but any delay would put your connection in jeopardy.

The document download "'Info for transfer passengers"from here >> https://www.zurich-airport.com/passengers-and-visitors/arrivals-and-departures/transfers << suggests to me that you will arrive at an A gate & depart from an E gate .. with a 30 minute transport time .. so, including passport control etc, it will be tight but ok. Personally I woud like more time or I would make contingency plans for an overnight in Zurich.

I would also look at delayed baggage insurance & be prepared if I made the connection but my bags did not.

one ticket. first flight swiss air, second flight a subsidiary named Helvetic Airways. would we have to do immigration at one termimal, get our bags, and carry them to the second where we would face another security line?
This is never easy.

You should contact the airline https://www.helvetic.com/hdc/ has a phone number at the bottom left corner.

Or . .better yet . .have a look at Norwegian https://www.google.ca/flights/?hl=en&authuser=0#search;f=EWR,JFK,LGA;t=WAW,WMI,RWA;d=2017-09-09;r=2017-09-13;tt=o

Leave in september & the transfer is 3'40" in Oslo but the cost is $273 one way .. can that be right?

and probably flying out of Newburgh Stewart at least 1.5 hrs driving without traffic through new york city.

There are many options with many airlines that do not include a 1:15 connection

The Norwegian flights I looked at are from JFK .. Newburgh Stewart is an option but I have no idea where that is.

https://www.norwegian.com/us/booking/flight-tickets/farecalendar/?D_City=JFK&A_City=WAW&TripType=1&D_Day=01&D_Month=201708&R_Day=01&R_Month=201708&AgreementCodeFK=-1&CurrencyCode=USD

It is a pity for me that Norwegian do not fly out of Canada but NYC is not a great step away so I will keep them in mind for the future.

Best of luck with your travels
