Star this if you like it!
Hey,
So I've booked tickets for the following mini holiday:
Sydney- Singapore (9th October)
Singapore- Hong Kong (12th October)
Hong Kong - Kuala Lumpur (18th October)
Kuala Lumpur - Sri Lanka (21st October)
Sri Lanka - London (26th October)
My question is there is obviously issues with floods and the dengue fever outbreak now (all happened a couple of weeks after I booked the tickets in April), has anyone been there since/ live there that would be able to give advise to whether it will be fine to go (it probably is but I'm trying to be prepared here!) or whether I should just fly to Bali (return tickets from K.L are less then $200!!) or just stick with going to Sri Lanka???
Any help/ information is much appreciated

Where in Sri Lanka do you plan to travel? Sri Lanka is not that small and you seem to have scheduled very few days there, are you staying in one place? It would seem the Dengue issue is confined to Colombo.

It would be wise to protect yourself against mosquito bites in tropical and subtropical areas, whether it's in Sri Lanka, Bali or elsewhere.

Bali is a tourist trap. Stick with Sri Lanka.

Hi,
Thanks for all your replies and help!!
I'm flying in and out of Colombo which is obviously where the main problems are at the moment but I think that I'll stick with it and probably move out further once I get there!

Columbo is a nice place to walk around, and there is a scenic train ride to Kandy.

Ella's is a lovely train journey from Kandy. Try Tissamaharama for Yala National Park. Mirissa is good beach location and there are trips out to spot blue whales. And Sigiriya for the rock.

i had the same question, 4 years ago. I decided on Sri Lanka, Colombo... but 2 attempts to book the ticket via Tiger, and it failed... I thought, well, it must be fate... don't insist. Choose Bali. While it was fantastic... I should tried booking Colombo a few more times...
