For example into designing prettier handbags...;)
Aren't these LV things, no matter if real or fake, outstandingly ugly? I'll never understand the hype about them.

Indeed, Kathrin. I don't understand the attraction either. Then again, my bag of choice is any one of my assortment of backpacks, large and small, so the whole handbag thing escapes me completely.

Still reading Crazy Rich Asians . . there is a party in Singapore .. most families attending are billionaires .. "people of breading & taste . . not a diamond over 15 carats .. not a single Luis Vuitton anything"

Oops = breeding!

Quoting hasbeen

"people of breading & taste

bread does indeed taste pretty good, particularly when it's fresh out of the oven. ;P

ROFLMAO, Sander!

I wonder which people taste best when breaded? The young and more tender, I would think.

You might need the breading on the older ones to make them more palatable.

I don't think the bags themselves are ugly but the pattern on them is. Makes my eyes cross

Things like LV are conspicuous consumption - in order to work for that they have to be identifiable as expensive. I can see a reason for Rolex as I think they are very good watches, but there are other good watches that cost less.

I can see a reason for Rolex as I think they are very good watches,

I am a bit of a watch afficienado (though owning a Rolex, one can only dream) so I can say in the case of watches you are paying for excellent technology (instead of ticking Rolex hands sweep) and then they pair it with an 18 carat gold bracelet and the value just keeps adding. In saying that it is probably a bit excessive in terms of time keeping accuracy. I mean who really needs a timepiece that is accurate to the nanosecond?

In terms of bags, while I do like my handbags I do find myself suspicious at some of those high end bags. Like the example of LV, they rarely use expensive materials and a lot of their range is made in Chinese factories (which is why they are so regularly counterfeited, China is not great on enforcing intellectual property, though they are getting better). So unless they are they are paying their Chinese factory workers French minimum wages you do have to scratch your head at their prices.
