9okm from Mumbai, 120km from your hometown of Pune and in the state of Maharashtra, you haven't got too far to go!

Moldova in a few weeks time, then a stop in Vienna and Bratislava on the way back.

I'm hoping to go to Moldova early next year. Looks a really nice place and for some reason, avoided by most tourists. I want to go before it becomes too touristy.

Yes, it looks really interesting and some of the scenery around Chisinau looks stunning. I'm really looking forward to it. At the moment it's the least visited country in Europe!

We were supposed to do an Intrepid trip to Moldova last year, but had to cancel it. We've booked up again for next year, so hopefully we'll make it this time. Hope you enjoy it.

We're part way through a three month trip to Canada, currently on Haida Gwaii, and soon to take the train across from the West to the East coast, stopping off in Churchill to see the beluga whales. Then we've got a short trip to Jordan in October, before finishing the year in the UK.

How are you getting to Churchill? Are you taking CalmAir?

I've been thinking of taking the train from Winnipeg to Churchill next year but my friends near Calgary mentioned that the service has been suspended. I checked and this is what I found:

Winnipeg, June 9, 2017 – VIA Rail Canada (VIA Rail) was advised by Omnitrax that service on the railway from Amery (north east of Gillam, MB) to Churchill, in northern Manitoba, has been suspended indefinitely. VIA Rail is communicating with customers who have reservations on the impacted trains. No alternative mode of transportation will be provided. VIA Rail will resume its services between Gillam and Churchill once inspections of the railway have been completed and the track is back in operation.

At this time, passenger train service continues to be offered between Winnipeg and Gillam. Going south, departures of the train from Gillam are scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Wednesday departures operate between Gillam and The Pas. Going north, Sunday and Tuesday departures of the train operate between Winnipeg and Gillam. Friday departures operate between The Pas and Gillam. No alternate transportation between Gillam and Churchill is being offered.

VIA Rail thanks its customers for their understanding, and apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the suspension of service. Customers wishing to modify their reservation may do so at no additional charge by calling 1 888 VIA-RAIL (1 888 842-7245) or 1 800 268-9503 (hearing impaired).

Hi, yes, we're flying, but only because the train is out. We had bought a seven journey train pass, and were using two of the segments for the Winnipeg to Churchill and return legs. We found out that the line was out about mid June, and had to decide whether to cancel Churchill, or pay the extra and fly up instead.

We decided to go ahead, but it is an expensive change, because we've not only got to pay for the flights, but also four nights of extra accommodation, when we would have been on the train. Via Rail have said they won't give us anything, (except to credit us the two segments that we won't be able to use anyway,) so we are trying to get something back through our credit card or travel insurance, but I don't hold out much hope. So I hope the belugas turn up!

Reports we've had from locals suggest that there are often problems with the line, at that there are rumours that they intend to give up on it entirely, but that is just a rumour.

In a couple of weeks we start a 10 day road trip from the top of Germany to our next house sit in Italy. We have bought a car that we pick up 2&1/2 hours north of Berlin, then drive down through Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy & San Marino - that's 9 countries in 9 nights! We will need the 10 days in our small Italian village to recover ☺
Can anyone suggest any don't miss sights on the way?
