We are going to Norway as part of a longer trip. Any advice on budget savings in this expensive destination will be appreciated ie food, transportation, lodging etc

Go teetotal for the duration - one of the ways Norway's expensive is punitive taxes on alcohol and tobacco.

The cheapest supermarket used to be Bunnpris.

For accommodation Cochs Pensjonat used to be about the cheapest sleep in Oslo but I'm sure the hostel scene has changed the options. Whatever your accommodation preference, Norway's a good time to try downgrading - try dorms instead of private room, or pensjon instead of hotel.

For getting around look at Norwegian air shuttle, this budget airline will likely be cheaper than trains or buses between the major cities.

Norway's pretty good at senior citizen discounts, but you do often have to show proof of age with a passport.

Are you planning on driving around Norway or taking public transport? How far north are you going? Is it a winter or summer trip?
