I am a guy from India who is in a confused state right now. I am planning to visit New Zealand and Australia by mid of December for 4 weeks. I started off by researching on NZ and found that I could either contact the INbound Tour Operators(ITOs), or operators of NZ. The ITOs are charging me a lot while the operators of NZ are not replying properly. Will this be the same in Australia too? How does tourism work in Australia, could you guys help me in understanding the way tourism works in both Aus and NZ??

You definitely do not need to go through an ITO. I assume you have a passport? Go on the NZ immigrstion site to see if you need a tourist visa first (although I think you apply for a visa when you arrive at the airport in NZ).

Buy a return airplane ticket and there you are.

Make sure you've researched where you want to stay in NZ and what you want to see because the immigration officer will quiz you to ensure you are just here for a holiday and that you intend to return home before the visa expires. The immigration officer will decide whether or not you get a visa to visit as a tourist. If you're not granted one, you'll be put on the next plane back at your expense. But this has only happened about 600 times in the last seven years so it's unlikely if you answer the questions honestly.

You do not need an ITO - that's just somebody trying to make money out of you.

Enjoy NZ - the weather should be decent by the middle of December.:)
