I'm planning a vacation with my mother, and we have three weeks. First off, we know we are going to KL, Malaysia for sure, in order to visit my grandfather. My mother's dream is to go to Japan, so we are for sure making that a stop. For a third country, we are debating between Hong Kong and Korea. We will be there from end of Dec to beginning of January. What are your suggestions between Seoul and Hong Kong? What are they like in the winter? Are there any other Asian countries you would suggest instead?

Thanks!

Korea will be freezing, as will Japan. Hong Kong will be pleasant shirt-sleeve temperature, so it's a no brainer.

Taiwan is pleasant temperature in Dec / Jan.

I'd take a good look at how enjoyable Japan will be in the winter. It would be too cold for me.

You must go with -snip-

India is such a beautiful place, I went there on a family trip in winters and it was seriously a enjoyable trip. In India, winters are not too cold. There is a pleasant weather in winters. Because, it is too hot in summers.

I hope, you must try this place with your mother too. Your mother would definitely like it .:)

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

I have been to Japan a few times in mid winter and found it not too bad. Cold but sunny days and cold nights. Snow in some places but often easily avoided or you can go elsewhere. I will certainly go back that time of year.

Seoul is very cold.

Hong Kong just has too many people.

Yes, Taiwan is OK.

Anything wrong with Thailand? Great cities and beaches as well as hot weather. You would have to book ASAP as it fills up in those months.

I was in KL earlier this year and it has changed for the worse. I will not go back there.

You only have 3 weeks so don't try to do too much. You could spend a week in KL, then go to Japan for your mother. You should have decent weather in Hong Kong, so make that the last stop on the trip and save something for your next trip.

We've found that if you have something in mind for a future trip, it makes it easier to cut things out of the present trip. It keeps us from doing too much. It's nice to slow down and really enjoy the place you're visiting.

Just a thought.

Enjoy your trip.

I think Japan is cold that time of year so it would depend on how well you can take it.

Phuket, Thailand is largest island attracts visitors in their droves - around 5 million tourists head to Phuket once a year. Vacation here in December you'll be ready to get pleasure from the spectacularly lovely beaches freed from monsoon rain and basking in gloriously hot temperatures.

Taiwan is ok, Malaysia is a great choice and you can go Vietnam (although there are many people here) but the weather is pretty cool.
Korea & Japan is too cold, somewhere there are snows. Hongkong does not many places to travel.
