This is a tough question - everywhere is interesting to some degree at least! But if I have to pick out some highlights, I would say for landscape Chile was one of the most fascinating countries I have been to, because its long thin shape means that there is such a huge variety within the one country. You asked for blogs, so have a look at a couple of my pages to see what I mean: https://toonsarah.travellerspoint.com/20/ and https://toonsarah.travellerspoint.com/40/. If your son can fit it into his travels I'm sure he'd find it worthwhile.

From Chile we went to Easter Island and for culture that has to be one of the most fascinating places on earth - not just the moai that everyone knows about but also the Birdman culture: https://toonsarah.travellerspoint.com/53/

Also for culture, definitely Japan as others have said, also Rajasthan and the Silk Road cities in Uzbekistan.

For wildlife you can't beat the Galapagos, while for scenery I'd add many of the US national parks (Yosemite, anywhere in Utah, Mount Rainier etc). We had a fantastic trip to Antarctica, loved Namibia ... I could go on ;)

Oh, and my favourite European country is Italy - wonderful food, beautiful landscapes and a great sense of history.

Sorry aussirose, forgot you wanted blogs - mine is https://aroundtheworldin8000days.blogspot.co.uk

I really liked South America in general. Toonsarah mentioned Chile, which is excellent for scenery, and Colombia is a really friendly place, also with some great things to see. Easter Island is a more expensive trip, but for me, it was well worth it. Not been to central America yet, but it is on the list!

Last year I did a driving trip through South Mexico, Belize and Guatemala and I agree Belize is amazing! (and frequently underrated in my opinion;)). As far as experiences go it was certainly unique and it made me see those countries in whole new light. I have to say all my travelling experiences have been overall very memorable. To put down one is really hard If I had to pick places I'd like to go back to, it would have to be Iceland, Norway and Serbia. I just feel like there is so much more I'd like to do in those countries. The are also parts of Spain, Portugal and Costa Rica I would love to see more off. Montenegro did blow my mind and Bosnia was so fascinating I am not really narrowing this down am I Though for all my overseas trips I have also had some amazing trips at home in Australia. Recently I did a drive through Pilliga Forest, and there was so much wildlife darting in and out of the forest, running alongside the car, I was just blown away by the experience and it was even far from my home

In Mexico I fell in love with Chiapas. Absolutely stunning landscapes, lots of ruins (I love ruins) nice people, average food, great flora and fantastic fauna too.
The roads are awful though.
I could go back there anytime.

Aussirose, glad you put Scotland on your list again. As I am from Germany, I can't really understand the hype about my country, but that's probably the same everywhere. I always think that other places are so much more interesting...;)

I have been to Belize and it is amazing and I'd like to go back, but I first heard the Howler monkeys in Costa Rica. We've been to Costa Rica twice and loved it each time. It has more different kinds of rain forests than Belize (and the first time we went we could see a volcano erupting) but not so much in the area of Mayan sites and the diving isn't that great.

The only place I've been in Mexico for any length of time is Cozumel and I really love going there for the people and the diving (which is also the reason we went to Belize). I haven't been called back to the other places I have been in Mexico.

I'd have to say though that my favorite place (outside the USA) is Bermuda - the first time I went was 1963, and the last time I was there was 2013. Anytime I have a chance to go to Bermuda, I will. I just feel at home there. It's pretty and not too cold in the winter (we usually go in November).

I know you asked for blogs - I had the trips on VT and when there stopped being a VT I took everything I could and dumped it into a blog site but I have not migrated it to Travellspoint yet. So if you want to read about Bermuda the best I can do is
