Hi folks!

I agree with you guys, Colombia is a nice country. I had some amazing experience there, working and visiting interesting places. Bogota has one of the most unique mix of culture, history and religion. I have visited many cathedrals but the one I liked it the most was...the church of Santa Barbara de Usaquen in Bogota. They offer a beautiful mass at noon, open for everyone ...I truly recommend it.

Thanks again for the responses.

My flight gets in at 9:30 pm on March 2nd, so I'm going to get an Airbnb for a couple of days.... That church sounds interesting, and I would love to attend a mass there. I always try to spend some time in the local churches and cathedrals to appreciate the architecture and decor... So I'll definitely plan to stop by when I first get into the city!

I still haven't decided which job and city I'll choose. The national program is a more secure position but I am becoming really enticed with the thought of staying in Bogota... If I choose the program, I'll only have one week in Bogota starting March 3rd. But if I choose to stay in Bogota and pursue options there, then I'll make it my home!

Updates to come!

Okay fellow travellers,

I finally figured out my plan, at least for a few months! I've decided to take on the position teaching in public school. I've been placed in beautiful Santa Marta. My first week is orientation... I'll have a free day in Bogota March 3rd and then all day orientation activities march 4-11. Even though I will be busy during the day, I still plan to go out and try to explore some of the city at night if I can...

After orientation I'll be heading to Santa Marta. I'll teach in a public school until June 30th. At that point, I can either renew my contract there, move to a different city, or quit the program entirely and go wherever I please. I'm so excited for the next few months and glad everything worked out in the end! I can't wait to visit the beaches in Taganga and explore Tayrona national park!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions... really looking forward to my time in Colombia!

Santa Marta!! Good Choice! Very nice little town! You're really going to like it there! Just over the hill is a great diving spot called Taganga. The town has everything you could ever want and great people. It's not the oldest town in Colombia, so you'll have to visit Carta to see things....But damn, I envy you. I really liked Santa Marta. A bring tears to your eyes sunset every night.

Screw it, I'm buying a ticket back to Carta.

Best of luck. I really think you made the right choice.

So, I'm here now, but not in Santa Marta, In Cartagena!!

Plans fell through with Santa Marta and I ended up finding a job pretty easily here in Cartagena. But not in the tourist area, at all. I'm out here in the barrios. I love it so far!! Its only been about a week so far but already enjoying every second. Well, aside from the insane strep throat I came down with a couple of days ago and the traumatic experience of trying to go to a clinic (where they tried to charge me 1.4 million pesos because of my foreign status )

Still planning on going to Santa Marta/ Taganga/ Parque Tayrona on one of these long weekends. And for Semana Santa I'll be hitting San Andres with some friends. Exciting!

Anyway, just thought you might be happy to hear that I'm having a wonderful time in your dear old Cartagena.

Cheers, and thanks again for all your help!!

I am happy to hear you found something, and REALLY happy that something is in Carta. The heat can be oppressive for a while, but that will sort itself out. Have an Aguila for me, and have a great time in the city. Is it a local school, or a chain?

Hi Folks!

I have been quite busy last month doing some social work in different countries in Central America. It was an unforgettable experience. I will share some stories later. Now I am planning to make a pause and take some days off for vacations with my 7 years old douther Zula. I need it because...I missed Zula so much.
