Hi, I am planning visiting Hong Kong over Easter 2018 to visit my Son. I have not visited before. I want to spend 5 nights in HK over Easter but then want to spend maybe another 7 nights at a beach resort. This is where I need some help - I am not sure where would be best to go - Thailand? Vietnam? Bali? Ideally, I would like a relatively short flight and enjoy a relatively cheap second half of my trip (knowing that HK will be expensive!). ANy suggestions? Thanks

There are four carriers that fly directly from Hong Kong to Phuket.

Vietnam- DaNang Thailand-Phuket Philippines-Cebu, even China-Sanya are relatively shorter, Bali is a bit far already. All have direct flight.
For the beaches, my rank are Phuket>Cebu>DaNang>Sanya.

I think the destination that meet your requirement is Da Nang (nearly 2 - hour flight) in Vietnam with a wide range of LCCs like Hong Kong Express, Jetstar Pacific. From Da Nang, ahead to the North you can visit the old imperial citadel of Vietnam in Hue while you can enjoy the lazy days in some coffee shops or tailor - made clothes shops Hoi An Ancient Town to the south.
