Hi All,

My partner and I have a road trip booked at the end of this month. We are in the US for 5 weeks and this is just a short part of our trip...

So we had booked Mammoth Mountain to go snowboarding and then planned to drive to Yosemite from here...along a road, which i very recently found out is actually closed until May/June!!!! Which has made a 1 hour trip turn into something like a 7 hour trip! Being from regional Australia and it taking 7 hours to get anywhere to begin with, we can put up with the travel (I guess we don't have a choice). However, if anyone has any advice or destinations we could stop at and look at on the way that would be very much so appreciated!

We are already coming from LA therefore driving up past Big Pine ...so we are going to keep going up past Topaz Lake along route 395 then west on route 88 and coming back down through Jackson and entering Yosemite on route 120 from the West.

So please, any suggestions, ideas, places to visit on this trip...anything. Help a girl out!!!

TIA!!

Route 120 through Yosemite is closed during the winter, I think a lot of the park is closed down and snowbound. Have a look at the official park website to see what's happening - https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/winter.htm

You won't be able to enter Yosemite by 120 from either side - the whole road is closed. If you want to see it you will have to focus on the Valley which remains open all year, taking the 140 from Mariposa on the east side. But do check that those east-west roads you plan to use as an alternative all stay open - this website may be useful http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/roadinfo/clsdlst.htm - it suggests SR 4 usually closes too, for instance.
