Hey all,

i'm currently on a year off before going to University, and am looking at going away to South America for roughly 2 months - after doing a bit of research it seems that trying to do even more than one country there would be a bit stupid, so after looking round a bit more I thought Argentina looked like a great place to spend my whole time.

Basically I just wanted to know if anyone has any advice on best places to go in this time? And how many things i could probably fit in? I want to have a mixture of city life but also treks/adventure kind of stuff, and especially want to do the iguazu falls! I'm 19 and travelling alone so want to meet a load of people when I'm out there too, i'm guessing hostel hopping is the best way to do this?

Thanks for any advice/replies !

Can't help for budget, I considered hotels to e cheap as they were about 100 € a night.

Patagonia was uite adventurous, with El Chalten having splendid treks and hikes. Cities are from the point of view of an European disappointing - Buenos Ayres is nice, but frankly less interesiting than an italian city for example.

Patagonia!!! It's really great. You'll feel like you're stuck in the ice age.

2 months will give you a lot of coverage - and its a huge country. Really matters on what you like. I spent two months there and still only saw a small portion. Most of where I spent time was in smaller places in Patagonia, but I also enjoyed a number of the larger cities including Mendoza, Bariloche, and of course BA. Highly recommend spending a day or more in the Tigre Delta (near BA), tasting wine and hanging with the locals in Mendoza.

Definitely don't miss Patagonia, including El Chalten and El Calafate. In El Chalten, do the Laguna de Los Tres, it's got amazing views. In El Calafate, the Perito Moreno glacier is spectacular, and you can even book with a company - snip - to go trek on the ice.

I love Argentina, especially Buenos Aires, and Mendoza is great too. Near to Buenos Aires is San Antonio de Areco, which is a lovely gaucho town.

Other decent cities include Cordoba, Rosario and Salta, with Salta having good white water rafting. Iguacu is well worth a visit, but a bit out of the way, so you may want to fly that bit, whereas we used buses for lots of the journeys.

Patagonia is beautiful, particularly El Calafate for the Perito Moreno Glacier, and El Chalten for the views of Fitzroy. You may want to nip over to Chile while in Patagonia to Torres del Paine. And if you have the budget and time, you could always go down to Ushuaia and try and get a half price trip over to Antarctica.

There are also some fabulous geological landscapes in the Talampaya and Ischigualasto near San Juan, and the Laguna Blanca near Chilecito.

The hostels in Argentina (and indeed South America in general) are pretty good, and a good way of meeting people.
