Southern France. Riviera. full of tourists, good weather, good food, good friends, splendid walks (people agglutinate on the beach, you walk 100 meters you have all the space you want), swimming pool at the house, barbecue, no wine cellar though...
Kids, wife, dog and some cats even come with us relax - that is our usual summer holiday.
Got addicted actually.
Summer vacations
Mostly we don't tend to travel abroad in the summer - we miss the half-decent weather at home (UK) if we do, and also prices can be higher. But we're going to Botswana this July, as that's one of the best months for a visit there, and I'm super excited!

Ah, those lucky people who can travel anytime they want!
I can now, but I spent 30+ years unable to take any time off (even 1 day!) in Dec/Jan and no Christmas days off (other than the national holidays).
So it was just payback then.
Unfortunately (ish), as a school teacher, our long summer holiday in the southern hemisphere is during the northern winter. But travelling through Europe in December/January was superb. I get five days at Easter so we're spending that on a beach in Tonga. The two weeks at the end of April is Cairo for the pyramids and then Israel, Palestine and Jordan. To escape the miserable wet Auckland winter, we have two weeks in Russia and the Baltic states in mid-July. I have to work the two-week October holiday to gather enough funds to go travelling again!
Depends what you mean by summer holidays. A lot of times I travel winter in my country to summer in another country so it is their summer holidays but not mine. Though in truth I have always preferred shoulder seasons, like spring and autumns. I always find weather is more comfortable at these times.
Nothing big planned for the summer, just staying in the country (US) although I am thinking of going to do The Wave at Coyote Buttes and trying to convince friends to go. It's something I would have to apply for a lottery at least 4 months in advance to get chosen in order to buy tickets, which is why I haven't done it yet. Also, summer would probably be really hot.
Beyond that though, going to Morocco and Iceland in the Fall.
king_golo, please be advised that Japan in August can be wet; and the country is subject to typhoons. I was in Japan, South Korea and the Russian Far East last July-August-September. For example, Typhoon Noru hit Japan Aug. 7. I was in Kyoto at the time; and there was heavy rain.
Typhoon Sanvu became a tropical cyclone when it hit Kamchatka in September, destroying our camp just before we arrived on Mutnovsky volcano. I found myself knee-deep in mud while hiking down the volcano. I had to be extricated with the help of a guide.
Bring rain gear.

Thanks for the tip! I'm aware of the weather conditions, but unfortunately we can't schedule our trip differently. Let's see...
