Some good suggestions, Dominique. The TravBuddy members here don't seem very active in speaking out on features they would like to see on the TP site so far. Maybe once they get going with writing blogs and learning the site more, they will have voice some opinions. Of course, Peter I am sure has a long 'to do' list, but nothing wrong with discussing things they would like to see in the future...

Yes, keep the suggestions coming. It helps to know what people would most like to see next. 🙂

Quoting DomR

I wanted to wait until Peter completes the migration of our data from TB to TP (which I believe is really a lot of work, and I am again really thankful that he offered it), before expressing my 'suggestions' or wishes. But since many now did it, maybe I also will.

One of the feature I found practical in TB also was to be able to search for all the members in one country (which could be my future destination e.g.); and also the fact that you are informed on the members who will be visiting your country (of residence).

That last feature, for instance, allowed the organization of informal meetups : TB Aurora (Yanti) saw that I was coming to KL, she told me that TB RyanLondon (I'm not sure if he is on TP now) was to be in KL too and that they were to meet, and suggested a meetup, and so the meetup came about: she contacted other TB-members in KL and made a thread in TB; and we were about 15 people at the meetup. (This last comment could also add to the 'meetup' thread)

Yes, that's the snowball effect. Somebody comes into town, notifies his/her primary contact, and if it happens to be a "Yanti in KL" or somebody well known in the local community, the whole thing snowballs. I also was at a meetup organized by Yanti on a local level in KL (internationally it was organized by me and Jon/northernlight), since we only knew not so many people in KL back in 2014, but once Yanti and company got on into it, we grew to a group of over 40 people in two days (I also made a blog about that on TravBuddy, and even listed where people were from/nationalities).

So far, I don't see that happening as fast on a forum or on FaceBook unless you have many people as an audience for the meetup. And when it comes to messaging, we use WhatsApp a lot since that doesn't consume as much data compared to other messaging features.

There are mobile apps (sorry for the plug, but I'm trying out travelstoke by Matador networks) - if Travellerspoint had an app similar to this, it would really be easy to look for people who are passing by or planning to visit a certain destination.

Hi Maurizio, I've taken a long time to get involved with TP but I've just answered a forum post and seen your post, how are you doing. I haven't been able to see why message button but maybe it's just I'm still too 'new'...funny to see 9000 pics though being so new :)
Are you coming to Plovdivs VT meet next year? I'm enthused already! I love Bulgaria and been meaning to have a return visit ever since first there in 2008!
