Hey! We are a brother and sister going on a trip in a couple of weeks. And having trouble deciding which country t visit. Both seems great and is a bit the same of for flight and hotel prices. We will be staying for about 4 nights.

Our main goal of the trip is: Shopping, Eating good (luxury on the buck), going to pubs and enjoy the local night out, some activities such as monuments, churches or historical buildings

So could any one give some advice that could help me decide. The cheaper it is to live the better since our money will last longer ;)

Thanks in advance!

I don't know if it is any help, but I've visited Nesebar in Bulgaria and I really loved it. It's not one of the capitals you want to visit, but for shopping and partying it is really great. There are a lot of cheap hotels along the beach which are very clean and have nice food. When I visited Nesebar I paid only 200 euros for 7 nights in a all inclusive hotel and had the best trip ever

Nesebar in Bulgaria ... It's not one of the capitals you want to visit,...7 nights in a all inclusive hotel and had the best trip ever.

I think Sofia might still be the capital of Bulgaria.

And 7 nights in an all-inclusive is many people's idea of hell, no matter where it is.

I know what the capital of Bulgaria is
It was just an example of how cheap hotels are in the region

Yeah Sofia's that cheap too. Or was a couple of years ago. Not a huge amount to see and do as capital cities go but it's friendly and good value.

I can't comment on Skopje apart from knowing the government had a push a couple of years ago to make it more interesting and easy for tourists.

I've been to both cities and although Skopje is probably the more attractive of the two I'd say Sofia is more interesting, so that would be my choice. There's more to do there especially as you say you're interested in churches and historical buildings. The archaeology museum in Sofia is excellent - a couple that I was travelling with spent 6 hours in there! I found the food to be excellent in Sofia, and very cheap. There are also options for great hiking just outside the city, and I did a day trip to Plovdiv which was interesting. I also did a food tour in Sofia with a company called Balkan Bites which was excellent.

I sort of liked Skopje...But I think Sofia was the more interesting city. Though Skopje has one monument that I just can't understand, and that is intriguing. If you HAVE TO choose, though, it's Sofia.
