I am a single man, 44 years old from Norway.
I have yet to travel to a tropical paradise.
Yes, I know...
Shame on me! ;)

I have been checking booking.com
and other various booking sites for travel offers.
I have found some places, but I need some tips anyway.
I feel it is confusing several times to pick a good spot.
I am focusing on the Caribbean first.
Looks to be the best spot for a newbie for me.

Budget: Up to 1800 USD
Timeframe: 1 week (Saturday to Saturday)

What I would like to do/need/want:
I want to photograph and film it all as this is one of my biggest hobbies.
I want/need a place with a long white beach with azure blue and clear water.
A row with palm trees along the upper border.
I would like to find some palm trees hanging out on the shore.
I love those scenes on photos on the Internet.
And it should be on the east shore because of the sunset.
It should be not too far away from a international airport.

I was thinking about the Punta Cana area in the Dominican Republic.
It has mile long white beaches, a lot of palm trees and cheap hotels some places.
And is somewhat close to an international airport
with flights from bigger cities in the US and even Europe.

Any other places fitting this bill, you think?
I am looking for a place with accommodation around 700 (more or less) USD for a week.

So now what?... ;)

The limitations here are going to be the price. Lots of places have beaches with palm trees (not all of them have white sand of course), and most of them are pretty close to an international airport. Also it depends on what amenities you want with your accommodation and if you want to be ON the beach. On the beach will be more expensive

Possibilities - Grenada, Ste Martin, Barbados, St. John USVI (if you stay at a camp), Costa Rica, Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, and St Croix

I guess there are places in the Caribbean that fit most of your requirements and could be doable for a week with the budget, especially if your budget is for flights + accommodation only (and not meals, drinks, personal spending). Aruba might be an option, it has some of those beaches. Although I'd personally prefer Bonaire because of the diving/snorkeling plus it is a bit quieter, and accommodations are a bit cheaper too. Both have direct flights from (among others) Amsterdam, and there are many special offers on the internet, so the only thing is you'd have to find cheap connections from Norway.

Quoting HansArne

And it should be on the east shore because of the sunset.

However, one of your requirements is a bit problematic. I think that a destination where the sun sets in the east is going to be a bit difficult to find...

On St Martin a lot of the trees are on the ground. Irma damaged the island enormously - it can make for interesting pics of course. Grand Case is half destroyed but the lolos are back cul de sac looks like after a B52 carpet bombing.

OK, I'll do a:
- Google Maps Street View thing (360 photos showing up as blue dots).
- Google image search
- Instagram search
- Flickr search
- Youtube search
To see that pops up with stuff... ;)

So Aruba, Bonaire, St Martin...
And: "Possibilities - Grenada, Ste Martin, Barbados, St. John USVI (if you stay at a camp),
Costa Rica, Grand Turk, Puerto Rico, Cozumel, and St Croix"
I see what I can dig up.

Flight to Dom. Rep. was as cheap as 5000-6000 NOK.
I have found housing around 2000-3000 NOK
giving me 3000 NOK to meals and such.
I am thinking the same on the rest of the islands.

My budget is 10 000-12 000, can go 15 000 NOK.

NOK = Norwegian Crown
NOK/8.5 = USD

Sri Lanka may also be worth a look. I'd think it would be cheaper than the Caribbean once you're there, but I guess it all depends on the flights.

The west coast south of Colombo had the perfect beaches with palm trees that you describe.

For St John you take a plane to St. Thomas and take a ferry over to St. John. (or you can stay on St. Thomas). For St. Croix it is also not a direct connection.

So Salines Beach on Martinique is found.
Looks like a winner for me.
Now for the planning.

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147327-d148301-Reviews-Les_Salines_Beach-Martinique.html
https://www.france-voyage.com/tourism/salines-beach-2396.htm

Has a south-west direction.
Looks good for sunsets.

"Located around four kilometres south of Sainte-Anne, Les Salines beach,
with its 1,200 metres of golden sand and perfect semi-circular shape,
looks like something from a picture postcard.
It's surely one of Martinique's most famous sites and one of the island's most beautiful beaches!
In this absolutely magical place, you'll find everything you could wish for in a beach:
coconut trees, fine sand and turquoise water, a delight for sunbathers"

:):):)

Flight: Oslo -> Paris -> Guadeloupe -> Martinique: 5300 NOK roundtrip
Flight: Oslo -> Paris -> Martinique: 7600 NOK roundtrip
(Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport)

So cheapest stay in Sainte-Anne: 2000 NOK (one place) and 2500 NOK
and up (several places) on Booking.com

OK, flight and stay researched.

Transport, airport to stay (and back):
€30 to Ste Anne?
https://www.toandfromtheairport.com/frenchcaribbean.php

Without any meals: 12 700 NOK in total with all travel and stay.

12700 NOK/8.5 = approx 1500 USD
