Hello!

Was thinking of doing Europe in April. Wanted to ask some questions/tips.

How's the weather like during April? I am planning to do Amsterdam, Rome, Venice, Florence and Barcelona.

In terms of flying into Barcelona, which city is better to fly out from - Rome, Venice or Florence?

Thanks.

Hi

Weather usually is a bit dryer during April with Spring season onset, Weather in cities like Amsterdam could be as low as 4 to 5'C & higher side could be between 12 to15'C. Some parts of Italy and Spain in general could be slightly warmer ranging between 7 to 18'C, the coastal areas could be even more warmer, especially during the days.

I'm not sure if I got your 2nd question right, but I guess you are asking about getting into Barcelona, you can get some budget flights from Venice and Rome direct to Barcelona... or vice versa....

Cheers
nyk

You will get good budget flights from Venice or Rome to Barcelona... Just search for some direct flight options online ... airlines like jet2, Ryan air, Vueling will offer good prices. From Netherlands you might get cheaper KLM options as well if you book early....

You are aware that Amsterdam is quite far away from the rest of your destinations, aren't you? It's a great place, but when I was there in early April in 2013, the weather was a nightmare - snowy, windy and very grey. The same can be true for many other parts of (northern) Europe. Spring normally kicks off in late April, but in German we have the saying "April, April, der macht, was er will!", meaning that April will do what it wants anyway (weatherwise). The weather in your other destinations should be much better.

How are you planning on getting to Amsterdam from the other destinations? It's quite an effort if you don't take the plane.

For me, early june through october is the best month to travel in europe. The places you chose are all good but for me, Rome and Venice are the best among them.

I would suggest flying in or out through Amsterdam and go by plane from (or to) Amsterdam to either Barcelona or Rome otherwise Amsterdam might be a bit too far from the other cities. You can go by train to Amsterdam but it takes some time (Amsterdam-Florence about 13 hours)
As for the weather, april might not be the best time for Amsterdam, but it's a okay time for the other cities. April in the Netherlands can be next to any kind of weather (5 to 14 Celcius avarage) the other places are warmer that time of year (around 17)

Depends on what sort of climate your coming from? I'm from the UK and personally I find the weather on continental Europe to be perfect in April! In Italy and Spain at least it will definitely be very pleasant. It's too hot in the summer to be active imo.

I think you have chosen good destinations (unsuprisingly you will find they are all very touristy), although I would have to recommend Paris and London as well.
