Although I was thinking of getting a new DSLR and everyone told me to go for Nikon or Canon I got a bit confused. Now that I went to a few stores, I am thinking of once again going for the Sony brand, the one I am used to.

Is there anyone who has experience with the A6000? I am thinking of buying it together with a 18 - 200 mm lens, but I am not sure if it is good the handle such a zoomlens on such a small camera.

If there is someone out there with experience using this camera or the newer one A6300, please let me know so that you can either convince me to take the step ... or not???

Hey there,

I just got myself a Sony A6000 and have been very happy with it so far. Before, I had a Nikon D5100 DSLR which was good enough, but a bit old - in other words, it wouldn't always do what it should do.

As with every camera with different lenses, it's not only the camera that matters, but also the lenses. I got myself 4 lenses, as I wanted to spread my camera usage to different fields, too.

Zoom: Sony SEL 18-135 F3.5-5.6
Wide-Angle Lens: Samyang 21 F1.4
Portrait: Sony SEL 50 F1.8
Macro: Sony SEL 30 M F3.5

So far, I've tried out the zoom and the macro extensively, and I'm very happy with both. The size of the zoom lens, though smaller than the one you're thinking about, doesn't cause any problems.

Like you, I thought about which camera to get for a long time, comparing this and that, but I eventually settled for the Sony mostly because pretty much everybody seems to be very happy with it. I certainly am! What many people remarked on on Amazon or the like was that the bundle doesn't really offer excellent quality. You might be better off by picking your lenses separately.

I hope this helps - let me know what you decided on!

Thanks for the more than positive input. I was thinking about this camera, but because it is small, I thought it would be a bust. I am more than glad that you love the camera. I was thinking about the zoom because it is great when travelling on holidays, you don't need to use so many lenses. I have read that the zoom 18 - 200 mm should be a great lens and not to heavy.

I was also thinking about buying a macro lens, but first the camera of course.

Thanks again for the great advice. I always had Sony cameras but I think the newer ones are just too big for my small hands and heavy as well. The Sony a7 for me is just too much money but look like a dream camera, so instead I think the a6000 is a better choice!

Thanks for the friend request as well!
