I'm visiting Morocco for the first time soon ( 1st august) and I'm trying to plan my itinerary but it's harder than I thought, there are bunch of websites trying to sell packages and offer a basic itinerary but I want to plan a detailed one knowing what I'm going to do and what to expect, not just visit Elfna in Marrakech just because the website told me to and it's in the package!! if there are any recommendations please share, it'll be very generous and much appreciated! cheers

Do you mean you are looking for a package or you're really wanting information to do your own thing?
As there's no reason why you can't see the sites and sights of Marrakech independently.
Foreigners have been travelling to Marrakech and living in Marrakech for years. Theres a number of recommended places to visit in the vicinity such as the trekking town of Imlil at the base of Moroccos highest mountain, and i have friends who could arrange a driver to collect you from Marrakech, wonderful for at least 2 to 3 nights, and to the seaside town of Essaouira, but also Telouet with it's Glaoui palace headquarters of the rulers of southern Morocco, incorporating a very scenic circuit of the picturesque Ounila valley to Ait Benhaddou and Ouarzazate and back to Marrakech, or on to Skoura and Kelaa Mgouna and Dades Gorge and on to the sahara desert and back to Marrakech.
There are many beautiful and favourite sights and routes I would recommend depending on how much time you have and how you want to travel.
If you want to rent a car I have a connection in Marrakech with cars I would recommend, and also in Agadir and Fez.
I can also recommend a friend who has been doing well taking individuals or groups on tours, including of course as individualized as you want in his 4x4 vehicle and he also has a very nice guesthouse in Tafraoute.
I would also be very happy to get an itinerary together for you if you want to make your own self drive trip for however many days.

So with Fez, said to have the oldest medina in the world but also accustomed to having foreign visitors for many years so just as set up for individual travellers as those on groups, though Fez being more of a rabbit warren has more hussle but still visitable on your own.
The must sees further away though are better visited by car, I drive all the time when in Morocco, but you can take the train to Meknes then grande taxi to moulay idriss and the must see roman city of volubilis.

I know a good guesthouse to stay in in Moulay Idriss run by connections of mine that ive long recommended and stayed myself there for 3 nights last year, nice for a couple of nights of exploring MI and Volubilis, but I also enjoyed staying at an off the usual path old art deco hotel in Meknes, Hotel Majestic, that was in my lonely planet guidebook, as for years I usually did not take kindly to Meknes but this time went around all the sights to at least appease my checklist.
You could also drive up to lovely Chefchaouen or take a train to Rabat and Casablanca and back to Marrakech.

Thanks a lot Angie for the reply, you've mentioned many places that I added to my itinerary now near Marrakech and that I was about to miss. actually I've booked a hotel and also a rental car, however I'm still afraid that I'll end up in touristic places with not much to see, i'm very interested in historic places and the architectural design of every country and region and I want my trip to focus on that. However when I started planning the trip there are sites that are repeated and I have to looked up generally every place on Google to see if it interests me or not, many sites offer itineraries without any information, and I've already been tricked in going to places that i ended up having no interest in. so if you can recommend an itinerary that focuses on the historic places it'd be more than great. otherwise just suggest some places to visit in Marrakech and I'll do my research on them. Thanks a lot!

I note that my extensive informative response was dumped by the moderators so I won't be making any further contributions here, if you want to pick my brains hop over to Lonely Planet Thorntree website where I pop up with regularity under the "nom de plume" of Kaptainsensible, I only use Travellerspoint as a facility to store my photographs, everything else is too complicated for an old timer like me.

Presumably you appeared to break the forum rules, such as external links which looked promotional. I don't mod this particular forum but I do know we are inundated by spammers and occasionally we get it wrong in the face of that - I'd say that 90% of first time posters writing something lengthy means it's been cut and pasted from elsewhere, and 99% of them posting external links are spam. We try to be a welcoming place - our mods are just travellers volunteering to do some housekeeping on the side - but we do of necessity become a little trigger happy on spam on first time posters. If you decide to give it more of a chance (and perhaps take time to learn the rules - but I don't know what happened in this instance) you may come to see it like many of us do as our forum of choice.

No thanks Andi F, .....I"ll concentrate on the LP Thorntree for travel writing, under the " nom de plume" of Kaptainsensible, there seems to be an overload of impedimenta on TP but the photo upload and free storage works just fine.
