What are your top choices for places that you have seen either online or on tv that you would like to visit but have not had the chance yet?

Blimey Jordan are you on a mission or something with these conversation starters? How many of them have you got queued up? :)

On the other hand, how many places have you seen in National Geographic Magazine that you wanted to see? I've found far more there and places in books that made me want to explore. Our second trip to France many years ago was inspired by Ina Caro's "The Road from the Past: Traveling through History in France" and we took the book with us and followed it although we did it backwards. Reading about a place is more evocative than seeing a short piece on tv or a picture online. Blogs online are better if they go into some detail.

I would say I get more destinations from random Googling or online articles and blog posts than I do television. But my trip to Rappa Nui was definitely inspired by a documentary I watched on television and documentaries on pre Columbus Mexico did plot out parts of my Mexico itinerary. I certainly would not have known to look up Olmec sites if I not learnt about the Olmecs first.

In terms of places I would like to visit, Cocos Keeling is one that I first read about online and then saw a documentary. Definitely Madagascar (thank you David Attenborough;)) and as a pipe dream again thanks to a documentary there are archaeological sites not yet destroyed I wish I could visit in that unvisitable country of Afghanistan

Almost all places on my wishlist I saw on TV internet or magazines, one or two maybe I got the Idea from family members and friends Natgeo boosts my wishlist (although it's long enough already);)

After watching 'Long Way Round' with Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman I have wanted to visit Mongolia - yet to get there! Madagascar is on the wish-list thanks in part to David Attenborough, and the Himalayan region in the north of India in part to Michael Palin, and probably others!

I've seen a documentary of the place Palawan, Philippines and there's really a lot of great things to see in there. I hope I can visit there soon.

My favourites from TV travel shows are Lali Bela, Caucasus and Silk Road. All of them are on my wish travel list for a very long time but there are many more destinations too.
