I am planning a 9 day trip to Europe. I know for sure I want to do Madrid and Paris. I want to add a third place to it , but confusing myself. I will be traveling alone and so I’m looking for a fun lively city. I like the basic walking around, cafes shops, bars lounges , cool people. I was thinking Rome or Lisbon, then I was thinking south of Spain and France. Any suggestions? (Maybe I’ll just do Rome this time)
I’d love to meet anyone that’s going to be in any of those places as well!

Have you thought of Dublin? Great party scene. Lots of young people and very friendly.

When I travelled through south France I found things tend to quiet down at night, so I don't know if it is the best place for night life. Maybe take a look at Zagreb. I have to say it did kind of remind me of a smaller Balkan version of Barcelona. When I visited there were quite a lot of cafes and bars and at night the streets were buzzing. Also I thought the people there were pretty cool;)

I think you may find Lisbon a little sleepy and small, though the geography works. Rome will blow your socks off. :)

Why add a city? Enough to do in Madrid and Paris to keep you busy for even longer than 9 days
3 days p/city incl. travel time doesn't leave much time to really enjoy them

Exactly, my thoughts. Plus the fact that the time travel isn't that easy. It takes like half a day just to get through to the next destination. From Madrid going to Paris requires 12-15 hours. So my suggestion buddy is, If you're gonna add a city, it must be near from your current destination. Have fun on your trip.

Yes, why not work out your route from Madrid to Paris and choose somewhere (maybe a smaller and contrasting place) to stop off between the two. It will break the journey and give you the third place you want without adding to travel times. For instance, the Man in Seat 61 (a wonderful resource!) suggests a possible stop in San Sebastian - https://www.seat61.com/international-trains/trains-from-Madrid.htm
