I've made the new mapping system our default now. There are always things that could be improved, but I felt at this point this was better than the current one and I wanted it up and running and being tested by everyone :)

Most notable changes.

1. A new look. Map tiles are a light grey which allows the trip line colours to really stand out nicely (if you have light grey trip lines, you might want to adjust those by editing your trip).
2. Mobile / Tablet friendly
3. Selecting the route to show should be easier than previously. You can select the transport mode as you're adding the stops and it will remember the previous mode. As soon as you add the stop, it will draw the route. This is particularly much better when mapping out a road trip.
4. Better details for routes on the map. Click on the transport mode icon, then on the route to select different ones if you need to.
5. Better embedding tools if you need to embed this on another website.
6. Nice large guide photos where available.
7. It's easier to provide custom names for stops. After adding the stop, just change the name to whatever you want.
8. Embedded maps of current trips will have a message at the top of the map showing where you currently are (based on dates for each stop)

Some things that are notably missing from this version
1. The ability to map photos (it may or may not make a return here - I'm more inclined to make that a separate feature)
2. Share links (you used to be able to send an email). This will probably re-appear in the future.
3. Export options (you used to be able to export to KML). This will probably re-appear in the future.
4. The ability to edit the lat/lng of an indidvidual stop. This will probably re-appear in the future.
5. The ability to drag stops into a different order. To re-position a stop, you should instead edit the stop and change what stop it should be after.
6. Ancient browser support. This version does expect a reasonably modern browser. Any browser's latest version should work.

Hope you all like it. :)

And as always let me know about any issues.

p.s. if you are desperate to access the old map, you can still do that here for a limited time. Please do let me know why you felt you needed to go back to that version though, so I can maybe fix the new version so you don't need to go back.

I like the new look, but I'm halfway through a blog for our boat trip, and plan to access old format for the next 4-5 months while we finish the trip … Just for the sake of consistency. New trips in the new format. Thanks!!

When I say the old version will be available for a limited time, I'm thinking like a few weeks tops. Links to the old maps will at some point start redirecting to the new format.

If you are embedding the map on an external blog - then you are already using the new format in fact as all those were switched a little while ago.

The first point 4 I prefer greatly to the old map but I do hope you regain the ability for lat/lng as I find it pretty useful for mapping obscure places. I will probably miss the old colour scheme but that is minor complaint and I'll probably get over it after using many it times. This must have taken quite the effort, I hope you get a chance to take a little breather after this;)

The look of the new maps is cool and the functionality is better in terms of adding stops. However, I’m struggling to add a place that isn’t in the dropdown.

The workaround always used to be to add somewhere else, rename and drag. I can manage the first two parts, but I can’t seem to drag the pin. Am I doing something totally stupid?

What browser (and version) are you using?

This does somewhat rely on reasonably new browsers.

No, it's just not available yet. I'll have to do some tweaks to make that work. I had draggable markers working at one point though it was not as easy as the old one. This and being able to just manually set lat/lng values are probably the main two things I'd like to resolve first.

For me it works only for the first access (with a long latence as I do have a lot of trips). The very first selection of a trip also works. Then changing the trip, nothing does appear (empty map). Coming back to global map I also get an empty map ! :(:(:(

It was at work, think IE10 or so?

Extremely slow on iPad as well, does not seem to work properly and can not handle all the mapping data fast unfortunately.
