Hello fellow travelers.
I'm going to Thailand for 3 months Dec, Jan, and Feb, I will spend my first 35 days in Chiang Mai and then heading towards Pai, Chiang Rai, Nan, and Lampang before finishing up again in Chiang Mai.
If anyone has been to any of these places and you wouldn't mind sharing your experience I would so appreciate it, I have been to Chiang Mai before but not for a long time now.

Thanks in advance, I love this site what an awesome way to share and help out fellow travelers.

Go well everyone, happy travels.
Don.

Hi.

I guess you already know that you will be in Thailand during the most expensive time of the year December - January, especially Christmas and New Years holidays. So book your hotel for the first few days or a week ahead of time.

Also, with your experience you know you can't just show up and stay for the time you want. Check with your nearest Thai Embassy for latest visa requirements. Probably a 60 day visa you arrange ahead of time then extend it.

No Bangkok or popular beach areas? Most round trip flights from N. America first land at Bangkok. Regular stuff you are probably familiar with is to change your money in Thailand for best return. Don't rely on a single debit card. You could lose a single card, damage it or have it stolen. ATMs in Thailand are not cheap, more now than when you were there before. So if you make a withdrawal take out the maximum your bank and the ATM allows. Same fee for a small withdrawal or for the most you can get.

This currency exchange rate link for Thailand has been pretty good for years. Rates are updated daily.

There are quite a few posts for Thailand that will come up with a forum search.

Good luck with your trip.

I don't know when your summer vacation is, but be aware that the wet season in Thailand is what we in Europe (and the northern hemisphere) would consider to be our summer.

Defo the best time to visit Thailand. Like other users have said - also the most expensive time.

Good time to visit the north. But you may run into crowd of Thai tourists so try to avoid popular spots on weekends / long public holidays
