Hi Everyone,

I'm planning a hiking trip to Canary Islands. I've already visited Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and now I'm thinking about traveling to Fuerteventura or Lanzarote. I'm planning my trip in November or first part of December.

Which one of those two islands is better for hikers? Are trails well-marked?

Thank you in advance for your tips. :)

Hi Joanna,
I would definitely recommend Lanzarote from simple coastline walks, Los Hervideros to El Golfo to the more challenging Haria to Teguise or Playa Quemada to Papageyo you will find something for everyone.
Your choice of November or December is also good because it will have cooled by then, it’s currently around 28-30 degrees at the moment.

Hi Locin,

Thanks for information.

To be honest, I'd like to be there right now - 28 degrees sounds great for me :)

When is actual winter in Canary Islands? I heard it lasts only for about two weeks in January.

One last question - do you know which of these two Islands is less crowded? Lanzarote or Fuerteventura?

I would suggest Lanzarote out of the 2; I've actually booked a hiking holiday myself there for a week this December, and when I was researching it definitely appeared to be the most interesting of those 2 islands for hiking.

Hi bex76,

Thanks for advice, looks like Lanzarote is going to win this competition ;)

I'm going to research the trails there, and lets just hope there won't be crowds in the mountains at that time of the year.

Hi Joanna
Lanzarote is definitely the more popular island but the hiking trails are never busy .
Since there is so much choice we very rarely meet other hikers.
However it is too hot to hike at the moment .
We don’t really have a winter but January and February do tend to be the cooler months.

Hi Joana,
Personally, I’ve been to both, and I love both. But for hikers, I suggest Lanzarote compared to Fuerteventura. Because Fuerteventura is a lot quieter than Lanzarote.
Lanzarote has so many other attractions and challenged places to explore out there.:)

Hi Bookitnow1,

Thanks for advice :)

I can see that everyone recommends Lanzarote for hiking holidays, so I'll follow the advice.

Do you have any suggestions regarding the trails? :) I've already started researching hiking options and there are loads of them.
