New: Change the style of the map embedded on your blog

Travel Forums System Talk New: Change the style of the map embedded on your blog

I just pushed out an update to the maps. You can now choose what the maps look like in your blog on Travellerspoint. The main thing to choose here is what the map tiles look like. There's 8 styles to choose from all up currently.

Once selecting your embed options, just hit "Save these Settings" and it will apply to all the maps on your blogs. Here's an example of the Voyager style on my blog

This new feature is only available to Supporting Members. Loading these styles costs a little more than the default one, so the membership fee helps cover that (and generally helps keep the site ticking along ;))

Ooh, interesting - off to experiment!

OK, this isn't good. I tried to edit one of my entries (https://toonsarah.travellerspoint.com/229/) so I could see the different options. But when I tried to insert a new version of the map I couldn't do any version! I selected a trip as normal and clicked on 'Select map view', but all I got was a map of the world with no trip lines on it! So I published without making any changes to the map that was already there, but now it's showing as blank. Either I'm doing something wrong or we have a glitch

The map not showing any routes might be due to a smaller change that was part of this. The timeout was shortened a bit for that, so perhaps you're hitting it. I'll extend it out a bit further to give it more time to load.

To change the embed style though, you need to do this on the map page, not in the blog. On the left of the map there are three icons - the bottom one is two triangular brackets. That is where you can set up how maps are embedded.

I might have to add that setting in the blogs area as well. I imagine you won't be the only one looking to customise that in there.

Thanks for the instructions Peter - I'll give that a try!

OK, found it - but I see that I can't (as I'd assumed) change individual maps, only all my maps.

And what does it mean by 'Include link to all trips when embedding an individual trip'? I didn't like to set that as I wasn't sure what would happen!

Yes, it will apply to all maps. I might make an option to at a granular level do it using the map tag, but I think this will suit most people.

The 'Include link to all trips when embedding an individual trip' is pretty clunky wording. When you embed a trip, you can have a back arrow next to the trip name that goes back to show all your trips. This setting turns that off or on. I'm not really sure how to word that any better. Or maybe I should just get rid of it as an option and always remove that link when embedding individual trips?
