Was having Italy in mind but changed plan due to weather there in Feb. Now Canary Islands in mind. I have 4 days and 4 nights to spend.

Going with another family - Total 4 adults, 5 kids aged between 13 and 5

What about including Tenerife and one more island - 2 days in each island.

I know it is only 1 hr or less between Island to Island.

Any advice welcome...

The islands are close however if you arrive Tenerife you will probably land at the south airport and a lot of the island interconnections are from the north airport, you need to check before making any decisions or you could spend a lot of your 4 days travelling.
The easiest and quickest connection is between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura by fast ferry that takes about 20 minutes.

Do you want to see anything of the islands or just tick them off your list? I spent a week on Gran Canaria and Tenerife (in two different holidays) and didn't even get close to seeing everything I considered interesting. Spending just two days there would be a total waste of a holiday, imho. I'd go for one of the more touristy islands, given that you have kids with you who are probably not willing to race through the islands just for the sake of having visited them, but who are more likely interested in spending some time on the beach or in the hotel pool. That aside, if they are interested in nature, both Tenerife and Gran Canaria offer enough spectacular hikes or photogenic views to keep you happy for a very long time.

Checked Tenerife flight fare on ryanair. Costs around 200 euro from Tenerife to Dublin. So out of scope.

Barcelona flight fare seems reasonable in Feb 2019.

I had a lot of fun in Puerto Rico on Gran Canaria. Spent two weeks there without the need or desire to visit the other islands. I would avoid visiting the other side of the island, lots of hustlers and tourist traps. Las Palmas was bad and so was Maspalomas. But the stay in Puerto Rico was perfect and cheap, with lots of opportunity to do stuff on the island, hiking, the zoo, waterpark fun etc.

Would recommend FUE as due to landscape it's so different from anything else in Canaries.
