OK, so I'm planning my possible trip early, that's what I do....plan early. Anyone know a good cheap place to stay for a week on the island of Kauai for a single guy traveling alone? How about things to do like hiking and good beaches to go to for snorkeling and sun bathing? Anything? I'm open minded on things to do.

Tunnels Beach up the north end is excellent for both swimming and snorkelling but you might need to either hire a car or organise a lift to get there.

Tunnels is excellent (except for available parking) but the surf on much of the North Shore is usually pretty rough in November other than Anini and possibly Hanalei.
Try the south shore, Lawai beach has good snorkeling but beach is very small, not a laying out beach (near Beach House restaurant),also Poipu Beach Park and maybe Salt Pond Beach.
It would help if you provide a budget per night for hotel or condo.

Kalalau is the most popular trail but it is pretty difficult and isn't always opened. Check out this website maybe you can find something suitable on here:

Thanks for the responses, as for renting a place, anything below $150 down to a youth hostel level. I like the Kauai hiking trails guide. Love doing both hiking and snorkeling.

It's too early to look for pricing almost a year away, but look at condos in Poipu (Kiahuna Plantation is right on the beach) or Kapa'a on the east coast (beaches are mostly not swimmable on this coast). Islander on the Beach is usually pretty inexpensive, has a small parking lot.
There are only two hostels on Kauai and both get mixed reviews.
