'Next' blog entry

Travel Forums System Talk 'Next' blog entry

Something odd is happening with the navigation system within blogs. I noticed it earlier today when reading the latest entry in a friend's blog. At the foot it had an option to click 'next' but not 'previous' - however clocking on 'next' took me to her previous entry! I thought she had maybe ordered them in some way to cause this, but I was just checking something in my own blog and noticed the same thing happening.

If you look at my latest entry, https://toonsarah.travellerspoint.com/286/, you can see there is a button for 'next' but not for 'previous', and clicking next takes you back to the previous one - there is no 'next' as I haven't written it! What's going on?

It may be related to the way you have it ordered. I have a blog I'm working on set up to show the newest entry first so "Next" takes you to the previous entry. If I've finished the blog and am not adding more, I set it up so the first entry goes first and it continues in order. Hence, when you click "Next" it goes to the next entry (or the following entry in real time).

It does make sense in an odd way. ;)

It was your blog I was looking at when I first noticed this. But I haven't changed the way I order my own and I don't recall having this issue in the past so I'm pretty sure it's a new phenomenon! My main blog is one continuous piece of work (in theory it would 'never' be finished) so I never fiddle with the ordering, and 'next' has, as far as I can remember, always taken me to the chronologically following entry which should be both the one I entered subsequently and refer to a subsequent date in the trip.

Just a thought. I guess we wait for Peter to weigh in on this. :)

Sometimes if I write a section and then go back and write a previous section, they don't order correctly. I have, on occasion, gotten so frustrated with the blog not going in order that I have deleted the whole thing and re-entered it. [Note - I go to the edit page, and copy the whole page to Notepad and save it before I delete it. This way all the photos are included]

No sign of Peter as yet ;) And I'm still having the same issue and would swear it didn't used to be like this! To me 'next' should mean either the next entry that was written, or the next in terms of chronology, which in the case of my blog is the same thing. Instead it takes me back to the previously written entry, describing the previous day. I would expect clicking 'previous' to do that, not 'next' - at least how I understand the English language

That's what it did when I inserted a blog entry from another blog - the Next didn't work correctly. I had to redo the whole blog to get it to work right

But this isn't a new blog - it's the one I started when I first joined TP and have been adding to regularly ever since
