The cheapest way of finding fares from Ireland:

  1. ryanair.com (or just jump to Skyscanner)
  2. Plan > Fare Finder
  3. select your desired dates and whola!
  4. check booking.com for the accommodation options in the destination, just in case there are some nasty surprises
  5. book and enjoy your cheap trip

I've covered most of their network this way. Booking only when the price is right. Due high frequencies and such a large network at some stage in your travels you will end up in the places you wish. But when the money is tight stick with the cheapest options that does not break the bank.

It should be fairly easy and cheap to get to France where you can hike, train, bicycle or bus to most of the country. If you stay in small towns and villages, it is very inexpensive. We love the Logis de France hotels. They come in all price ranges but the lower end logis are usually out in the country or in tiny villages that are just beautiful. They nearly all have very good restaurants or you can eat out of grocery stores to save money. Most groceries have deli-type prepared foods that are excellent. Bakeries also often have lunch-dinner type things like pizza, quiche and sandwiches.

France is covered with hiking trails and that is as cheap as transportation can get. There are hostels and shelters along the trails that are also very inexpensive and you meet a lot of very nice people there.
