I'm planning a trip for the last weekend in July for the Guelaquetza Festival. Should I stay near the Zocalo? I would appreciate hotel and activity recommendation to fully enjoy the festival. Thanks

There's plenty of good hotels near the zocalo. Lots with neat little courtyards. Really, most of the town is easily walkable, so you can't lose. Yep. Stay near the zocalo. There's some nice ruins there, and then the coast isn't that far away, should you wish it. Theyve got a nice market there and you can get some good natural vanilla. I liked my time in Oaxaca, but I can't say it's diverting for a solid week if you don't like just sort of walking around.

There are quieter (and much cheaper) places than on the Zocalo, especially that time of year. As the previous poster said, the city is easy to get around on foot. Have you looked online for prices and availability yet?
