Based on some of our discussions we've decided to fly across to Istanbul and spend a few days there before heading off to Mumbai and then up to Bagdogra, maybe visit Sikkim. we then spend a few weeks in their school near Taplejung.

We are checking the dates with our friends as we now expect to get into India mid July but our reasoning was that living in Europe we can get to Eastern Europe and Greek Islands quite easily on a future trip as we'd like to spend a bit more time in India and Indonesia.

I've added an Indian element to our trip now but its first pass - again any advise welcome

You should go online to check weather conditions in the places you want to visit. India is a large country; and the monsoon can affect regions differently. In July, many places will see high temperatures moderated by downpours.

Nepal also is affected by monsoon:

You will be spending time volunteering in eastern Nepal. Go online to check the Taplejung area. YouTube has videos. I use YouTube to get an advance idea of what it's like in the places I'm interested in visiting.

Sorry I can't be of more help as I'm leaving shortly for the airport to catch a 10-hour nonstop flight to Honolulu.

You have many options to choose in India like Goa, Mumbai, Delhi, Himachal, Kashmir, Chandigarh(The Beautiful City), Jaipur, Darjeeling, Agra(Taj Mahal) and many more.
All are beautiful so its your decision where you wants to go.
I suggested you personally you should go to Kashmir, Goa, Darjeeling or Himachal.

Hi Mangat

We are really flexible on where to go. We are going to Bagdogra and then up to Sikkim as our friends will pick us up and take us to Hangdeva where they have a school. After that our schedule is quite lose. Presumably we should do Darjeeling whilst we are over that side (Bagdogra)?

Jaipur and Agra are definitely on our list!

You may plan Delhi (2 nights)- Agra (1 night)- Jaipur (2 nights) - Jodhpur (2 nights) - Udaipur (2 nights) - Delhi fly to Varanasi (2 nights) - Fly to Bagdogra (via Kolkata 2 nights) - Darjeeling (3 nights) - Sikkim (3 nights) - Bagdogra - Delhi.
This way you will be able to visit places of your interest.
May ask for the detailed itinerary if required, also i have given number of nights considering average stay in each place, you may however, change the number of nights as per your requirements.
