I am 64 years old,my wife 58 and we don't have many opportunities to return to South est Asia as we want some other countries.

We programmed a trip in March for 2 weeks in Southeast Asia as below:

- Luang Prapang : 6 complete days .
. Siem reap : 3 days.

For the other 6 days I hesitated to spend them either:
- in Vietnam (2 nights in Hanoi, 1 night in Halong and 3 in Hoi an ).

-Or in Chiang mai .( In this case I will drop 1 day from Chiang mai and add it to Siem reap because I think that 5 days in Chiang mai is enough for it ,unless to spend 1or 2 nights in Chiang Rai.

Regarding to your experience in Asia , do you think that this trip is douable? .
I hope you can advise and suggest me any modification to my plan .
Best wishes

Focus on Northern Vietnam only (Hanoi, Halong Bay and Ninh Binh).
Do Hoian for another trip!

Luang Prabang is a very small city so I think you should spare 1 day for other destinations.

With regard to your hesitation, I think you should spend your time on Vietnam, Hanoi and Hoi An are charming cities while Halong is absolutely exotic.

Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai are beautiful places as well but I think it can be harder to travel to Chiang Mai than to Hanoi from Siem Riep.

Siem Reap: we stayed there two days and was a busy two day experience. In my case:

Day 1: arrival AM and afternoon visit to Angkor Wat
Day 2: Angkor Wat all day
Day 3: AM departure

The town of Siem Reap is very busy as expected, touristy and not particularly pretty it self. We were busy for the two days and easily could take it easier and spend more time. At the same time I do not feel we have missed anything...
