Hey there! I'll be travelling to Guinea-Bissau next week as part of a research expedition. I don't need to carry much cash as the food, accomodation, etc. are pre-paid for, but I would really like to pick up a souvenir as I've read that there is beautiful and unique artwork on the Bijagós Islands. I was wondering if anybody has seen the artwork out there? And if so, do you have an idea of how much it cost? Thanks in advance for any advice!

A friend bought a Vaca Bruto mask on Ilha de Uno. I don't know how much he paid for it. I traveled with him in the Bijagos archipelago in October 2015. He has for decades traveled to Guinea-Bissau and other countries in West Africa.

Please note that there is concern about objects removed (some might say "looted") from sacred sites. I photographed several old fetishes and was told not post the photos online, nor to give any hint of where the fetishes were.

P.S. See photo of the mask in the Travellerspoint Guinea-Bissau photo section.
