Embedding the map in Wordpress

Travel Forums System Talk Embedding the map in Wordpress

Has anybody successfully embedded their map into a Wordpress blog post?

I've tried pasting code into the HTML screen, but this gets automatically stripped back to the URL in the code.

There is a generic embed widget, this only takes a URL. Pasting the map URL into this also fails.

Any advice/tips would be welcome. Thanks.

Are you talking about a wordpress blog on wordpress.com, or about a self-hosted wordpress blog where you control the software? I'll assume the former.

The travellerspoint map needs JavaScript to function, and most blog hosting sites (including, as far as I know, wordpress.com) disallow external JavaScript for security reasons (which is completely justified), which means that the travellerspoint map just won't work there. (Theoretically someone could create a travellerspoint map widget or somesuch that'd then allow this to work, but I don't see that happen.)

Your best bet unfortunately is to take a screenshot of the map here on travellerspoint, and use that as just an image in the blogpost, linked to the full map here on travellerspoint.

(Oh, or if you've only just started the blog on wordpress, you might also have a look at the blogging functionality here at travellerspoint, and think about hosting the blog here. But of course if you've used your wordpress blog for longer, that won't be an appealing option at all.)

Hey, thanks.

Yep, it's a blog hosted on WordPress, been going a while. I guess snapshot is the only way to go then.

Thanks anyway :)

I had another look at this as I changed our embedding code recently, but from what I can see it's still not possible on Wordpress.com.

You would need to self-host to be able to embed our interactive maps. Or go with the screenshot option with a link back to the interactive version.
