Hi there, I'm totally new to travellerspoint and have been enjoying getting my page ready, adding photos etc! What I want to know is how do I connect with other members on here? I really want to read other peoples pages and look at their photo's. Also having over 30 years travel experience, most which has been solo, I'm really keen to help others with questions or planning travel, especially young women. Also I notice there are a lot of younger travellers who are quite hesitant about travelling alone. Can I just say you are not alone!!! When you travel and especially when you book into hostels, you will meet lots of likeminded people you can hang out with and maybe travel with. On the other hand, if they start to get on your nerves (which quite often happened to me) you are free to leave them behind with no guilt!!! People in other countries especially Asia are so friendly and will be there to help if you get lost etc. Just the same as being at home really, you just keep your wits about you, go with your gut, always look confident and don't take any shit - same as if you were in your home town! People are people the world over and you will find the good ones!;););)

A couple of ideas:

1. Read people's TP travel pages/blogs, leave comments and, if they appeal, add them as a friend. If they reciprocate you'll be mutual friends.

2. Answer lots of forum questions so that other members get to 'know' you as well as them being more likely to click on your profile and pages/blogs.

Hope that helps. :-)

Hi Katie and welcome :)

Join in on the forums and give answers to the newbie travellers looking for advice, pretty soon you'll be one of the regulars complete with the banter and friendly abuse!

x

Andy

The forums are probably the easiest way to find other active members and by answering questions asked on the forums, you'll easily get to know fellow regulars. Click on their usernames to go to their profiles, which give an entry point to their photos, blogs, maps, etc. From the profile, you can also add other members as a "friend", and get notifications of their contributions.

You can also use the search functionality (accessed through the hamburger menu in the top left) to search for blogs or photos on specific subjects / locations, and then click through to the profiles of the people contributing those. Given the long history of travellerspoint, there's a high chance that most people you'll find this way aren't currently actively contributing anymore, but their blog posts might still make for worthwhile reading. :)

The forums are definitely the best way of connecting with the community here. So you took a good step by starting this thread :)

Adding people as friends allows you to follow their blog updates which I think is pretty useful as well.

Hi Katie. Welcome to TravellersPoint. I see you're from Glasgow. I love Scotland. When we visited, it was such a friendly country and incredibly beautiful.

You've gotten good advice above. Just start exploring and posting and you'll quickly meet people here. It's a very friendly forum.

Happy Travels.

Hi guys

Thanks for all you tips! I have added you as friends! So got some pals now lol! Next question, I have enjoyed getting familiar with all your pages and really enjoying reading about your travels but haven't figured out how to see your travel maps? Also can you share this blog with friends outside travellerspoint? Thanks in advance for all your help! :)

On the right in someone's profile, there's two green circles showing number of trips and countries. Beneath that are listed the three most recent trips, and below that a link "All Trips by [username]". Click that to go to the full travel map for that person.

Also can you share this blog with friends outside travellerspoint?

Yes; the maps, profiles and blogs (and forum posts as well for that matter) are public by default, so you can just link people outside travellerspoint to their URLs. The "spread your travels" page (accessed through the control panel) has direct links for easy copy/pasting.

(@Peter: you should probably remove that "add the Travel Map application on Facebook" link on there, since I don't think that works anymore, right?)

For what it's worth, I don't see a blog listed in your profile yet. (Just in case: A blog here at travellerspoint is your own space for writing long form, with the ability to embed photos and maps, and a custom layout and a short easy to remember URL. Other people can comment on what you write there, and you have the option to open up this commenting for non-members as well. For example, here's one of the blogs by Beausoleil: Beausoleil in England.)

Sander I just looked at your travel map, wow love it! You have given me some ideas eg including the year. All my trips look like they are in the futre, I felt it a very long process to scrol back for years to get the dates!!! Is there an easy way to do this?
