We are taking a cruise and ending in Singapore and will stay 5 nights in Chinatown. I have booked Hotel 1929 but the rooms are very small. I was looking at Airbnb options in Chinatown but I understand they are illegal unless in a government approved building. Can anyone give us any input or suggestions for this? It will be in May 2019.
Thanks

Hi hi

I think you may find that most boutique hotels in town are about the same size. Whether you need to stay in Chinatown would depend on your travel plans in Singapore. Singapore is actually quite a small city state so as long as you stay near any MRT station, you would be quite easily connected to any part of Singapore by public transport. Bigger rooms may be found a bit further from the city center but not by much.

AirBNBs are in the process of being approved but unfortunately I am unsure of the current status.

My preference is a hotel vs AirBnB - legal or otherwise. With a hotel you usually have a long track record and a known location. Another thing you might want to think about - invasion of privacy! I think you are more likely to have hidden cameras in an AirBnB place than hotel rooms.

(Lots more with a Google search.)

How many people will you stuff in a single room?

Singapore is not that difficult to get around in.

Good luck.

if you are going to Singapore there is no Hotel vs Airbnb. All vacation rentals from Airbnb and similar sites are ILLEGAL. Your legal options are : hotels, hostels ,apartment.

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

We had two nights in one of the 81 chain (81 Dickson). Compared to other hotels in Singapore, it was reasonably cheap and close to the city centre. It was clean, functional and did exactly what it said on the tin - but absolutely soulless!
