Hi everyone,

I am travelling the summer in Europe and wanted to travel from Portugal along the coast all the way to Croatia.

So stopping in Lisbon, Lagos, Seville, Valencia, Marseille, Nice, cinque Terre etc and down through Italy and up to Croatia.

I am wondering if anyone had reccomendations for the best route/ mode of transport and time line as I would love to get to all those destinations in summer. I will be in Europe the rest of the year so could visit any cities again in the with months if I skip any during this itinerary.

Any recommendations would be glorious!

Hi Sophie,
I would stick to the trains first. seat61.com has a lot of information about each country and is a fantastic source of information. The fare is influenced by timings, route, trains type etc. Sometimes is not the cheapest way around, but definitely the most convenient (it's an 'old world' hence the train stations are in central city locations). If you avoid high speed trains, then I think you can stretch your budget further.

Bus is cheaper alternative and you will have no problem getting one from point A to point B in this part of Europe. But they are less comfortable than trains (in most cases). But for the short trips this will do fine.

Once you get to Marseille and Toulon area you can get a boat to various points. But then you skip the ground and some places to see. From Italy there are ferry services to Albania. And from here you can get to Croatia via Montenegro (time permitting).
