The island of St Martin is two countries. One French (Saint Martin) and one Dutch (Sint Maartin). I see only one Saint Martin in the list of countries. Where is the other one?

Neither are independent countries. Sint Maartin is under the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Saint Martin is French overseas territory.

There are many lists of countries (193 UN, 195 UN+, 205 Sovreign States, 255 dependent States, 266 something else and so on). My guess would be that TPs list used here defines overseas territories but not these under the Kingdom of another country.

Which does nothing to explain why The United Kingdom and then England Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all come up separately?!

If that is true, why list St. Martin at all? VT had Sint Maartin listed separately, but Ste. Martin was listed as a part of something else (Guadaloupe?)

Puerto Rico and the USVI are listed separately even though they are not independent countries.
