Babbel is apparently coming out with a "Lit-tionary" to translate foreign slang for travellers. Considering how bad most translation apps deal with slang it will be interesting to see just how accurate this one is:

Anyone here ever been tripped up by foreign slang?

I associate slang with younger people. It always seems like they are trying to be cool. When you want to be understood in a foreign language, especially if you aren't that familiar with it, avoiding slang is a good idea. Also, many young folks may find it's not useful (or even polite) when speaking with older foreigners.

Been tripped up by foreign slang . . . no, but a lot has probably gone right over my head.
