Hi Everyone!

I will be going to Iceland this September as a 18 year old solo traveller and I am super excited about it.

I heard from somewhere that there is this student travel community in Iceland that you pay a fee to become a part of. And that once you are a part of that, you connect with a bunch of people who familiarize you with a set of good accomodations and may even give you some local tips or show you some hidden places most tourists don't know about.

Not sure if this actually exists, but please provide me with any information if you have heard of something of the sort.

Thanks!

I think the excellent Guide to Iceland locals may be very helpful for you:

I can particularly recommend contacting Regina, who is extremely knowledgeable about her own country and whom I (and some other Travellerspoint members) know personally:

If the student community you mention exists she will certainly know about it.

I would like to go in Russia to St. Petersburg in June. Can anyone recommend me visa support and personal guide. Read reviews on the Internet here -snip-

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

leics2

Thank you so much, the links you provided are very helpful and I don't think I would've found them otherwise!

Glad I could help. I'm sure Regina will be able to give you some good advice. Feel free to mention me (Leics) when you send her a message. :-)

I would be a little wary of anything that asks for a fee. Many times these organisations are offering things you could organise and/or get for free or less money. If you find this organisation make sure it is offering you value for money.

Just backing up Leics2 here.
Regina is lovely and was our #1 go-to guru on VT for Iceland. She'll be an excellent resource for you. Give her a wave from Goodfish as well!

A third shout-out for Regina. I'm biased because she's a good friend of mine but you really couldn't find a more helpful person to help you plan a visit to Iceland
